Urgent: Protect Free Literature for the Blind — Your Voice Is Needed

Bill C-15 (Budget Implementation Act) contains a clause to repeal the free Literature for the Blind service in the Canada Post Corporations Act. Bill C-15, in Division 2, S. 197 repeals Paragraphs 19(1)‍(d) to (g.‍1) of the Canada Post Corporation Act.  This includes the repeal of S. 19(1) (g) (i) which provides for the ‘transmission, by post, free of postage, of (i) letters, books, tapes, records and other similar material for the use of the blind.’ If C-15 becomes law as written, it would have the immediate effect of repealing the Materials for the Use of the Blind Regulations (C.R.C., c. 1283) which according to Canada Post are the complete program terms and requirements.

Please reach out to your elected officials to show support for the withdrawal of this amendment to ensure that organizations across Canada that rely on free postage can continue to serve the blind community!
